Xiaomi denies that it has started accepting payments in cryptocurrency

Mi Store Portugal has decided to partner with the UTRUST payment platform, which is focused on cryptocurrency. The platform provides an innovative purchase protection mechanism.

Mi Store Portugal is a Xiaomi reseller that operates in Portugal.

The company has given customers access to pay for Xiaomi products in cryptocurrencies: Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Tether (USDT), Dash (DASH) and Utrust (UTK).

A Xiaomi spokesperson posted a comment on the Chinese social networking site m.weibo: “Today, we are concerned about information that Mi Store Portugal accepts encrypted digital currency payments on foreign social platforms. Following an investigation, the information was announced by the third-party authorized partner Mi Store Portugal, which operates independently at the local level and is not related to the work of Xiaomi. “

The Chinese corporation has denied any involvement in the store’s decision to accept payments in cryptocurrency.

After the statement from the official representative of Xiaomi, Mi Store Portugal removed information about payment in cryptocurrency from its website, but at the same time UTRUST is still listed on the site as the payment partner of the store.

Portugal is on the list of countries that are positive about the cryptocurrency market. The government does not levy taxes on retail cryptocurrency trading.
