What is Total supply

Total supply refers to the total number of tokens that have been generated so far, including those that are locked up or burned. Tokens could be locked up, or kept from being traded, via smart contracts for certain reasons. For example, locking up tokens could be a means to stop some early investors from immediately selling them after the Initial Coin Offering. This helps preserve the token value’s stability in the long term.

Total supply is different from circulating supply or maximum supply. Circulating supply refers to all the already generated tokens available for trade, whereas maximum supply refers to the maximum number of tokens that can ever be generated.
